Making sense of science spending

The Scienceogram is a call for greater investment in scientific research in the UK (and around the world) that highlights the disparity between spending on science, and the size of the problems it’s trying to solve. This mainly involves dividing up spending on science, and other areas, into pounds per person per year—a simple methodology that turns up some very surprising results.

(A first excursion into this territory was the Cashogram, which covered public spending more broadly, inspired by the baffling billions thrown around in the news.)

The Scienceogram was created by Andrew Steele (@statto on Twitter), a bioinformatician and science communicator based in London, who founded it in 2013 with Tom Fuller, an editor, designer and videographer based in Oxford.
